Watch the JLCO Perform the Music of Puente, Machito, and Henriquez
This week, we’re releasing another Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra performance from the vault: The Music of Puente, Machito, and Henriquez. Music Director Carlos Henriquez explores the full spectrum of Latin jazz through the works of Afro-Cuban forefather Machito and “Mambo King” Tito Puente, dipping into his own growing songbook along the way. Don’t miss this 2015 classic!
In these trying times, we plan to continue entertaining, enriching, and expanding the global community for jazz through online education and our social platforms. Please consider supporting Jazz at Lincoln Center at whatever level you can.
Watch: “Just A-Slidin’” Video
Get lost in this moment of musical zen brought to you by Christopher Crenshaw’s The Fifties: A Prism, the latest release from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. “Just A-Slidin'” is part of a supercharged suite inspired by the works of Gerry Mulligan, Miles Davis, and others. Read an excerpt of the liner notes written by the JLCO’s Ted Nash, which sheds more light on the explosive era.
Playlist: Explore Los Angeles Jazz
Los Angeles has helped shape the direction of jazz in diverse and often profound ways. Closely tied to the West Coast sound epitomized by Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan, the city also embraced the free jazz revolution of Ornette Coleman, the genre-defying majesty of Mingus, and the jazz-rock fusion of Frank Zappa. Explore the rich history of jazz in the City of Angels in this new curated playlist!

Jazz for Kids
Keep your little ones entertained with our family-friendly playlist and discover these fun activities for you and your family!
- Listen to music as a family and focus on the emotions it can bring. Does a song make you feel sad, happy, or something else? Does your child respond in a similar or different way?
- Find new ways to swing and scat your child’s favorite songs and books. What would it sound like if a cow were to sing “Mary Had a Little Lamb?” What about a cat? The funnier the better!
