Ludwig van Beethoven as a citizen, as a composer, a humanist, a visionary, and a nature lover: these are the five “pillars” – or key aspects – under which his anniversary is going to be celebrated. Besides Bonn, Dresden, or Hamburg, one city is especially gearing up an exceptional musical program: Leipzig. The Gewandhausorchester was, in fact, the first to ever perform Beethoven’s entire cycle of symphonies in the years 1825 until 1826. From February 20-28, 2020, five “Große Concerte” (Grand Concerts) will be performed, and during June 11-21, 2020, Beethoven’s music will be a part of the annual Leipzig Bach Festival.
